A Strange Place to Sing

In August 1996 I interviewed for a job as cabin crew for Japan Airlines, London Base and got in!

While I studied “in cabin” Japanese in London, I spent 6 weeks living on the floor in a nurses dorm of Kingston Hospital with a friend of mine who was studying nursing!

Then another 6 weeks in Tokyo in another dorm (this time with a room and a bed to myself) while I did my service and emergency training.

I was actually so amazed to finally find myself in a JAL uniform boarding a Boeing 747 to start work at the end of that year.

Singing wasn’t my main priority then but I still got my opportunities to sing karaoke in Japan.

The main venue I sang at then was called The Truck and basically it was a truck trailer that had a bar in it!!

It was THE place to be for cabin crew on layover in Narita, Tokyo!! Conveniently situated on the side of the road near all the main hotels at the airport!

It’s so weird to remember those days! One of the reasons I finally left JAL in 2001 was to start singing again. I had missed it! And late night karaoke just wasn’t enough.

So, where do you sing?? Do you have any interesting venue to share???
